Embracing Indigenous Knowledge on Learning, Relearning, and Decolonizing
The theme of week 2 of our digital campaign focuses on “learn, decolonize, and relearn” which aims to showcase the way all of us are in a metamorphic process of learning, relearning, and decolonizing in addressing historical injustices and ongoing impacts of colonization including assessing and dismantling colonial processes within educational institutions and the society, which have marginalized Indigenous knowledge and culture. Decolonization is about actively relearning and restoring awareness about the Indigenous language and cultural practices, not just about unlearning the colonial outlook and integrating their stories, art, and culture into educational systems would show a progressive approach to making a more inclusive and respectful community that celebrates Indigenous identities and uphold self-determination.

The HRM Club has been promoting the life and culture of Indigenous peoples in Canada through courses like Managing Diversity (BADM320), and engaging and learning these concepts has made the members of the organization recognize that decolonization is about the commitment to change and not just a mere theoretical activity. Through discussions and collaborations within the group in celebrating the Orange Campaign, Acsenda’s HRM Club has learned and appreciated more the value of incorporating their values to practices and promoting social awareness about the Indigenous peoples in the institution. The preparation for this campaign has taught the HRM Club the importance of respectful listening, reflective perceiving, and fostering an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and respected.

Engaging with these resources and participating in the activities of the school we can play a vital role in fostering a greater understanding and knowledge about the history of indigenous people and promoting reconciliation.
