Recently our Human Resources Management Concentration students had the privilege of competing at the Western Canada’s Premier HR Case Competition. Where Acsenda School of Management proudly secured 3rd place among 16 teams representing top HR schools across Alberta and British Columbia (ranked 1st among BC institutions). This was a memorable win, as it marks Acsenda’s first‑ever podium finish on the HRC West stage. It also represents the first time an independent institution has reached the podium in the competition which features teams from multiple public universities and colleges. This milestone made the moment especially memorable for the winning team, HRmony Solutions –featuring students Don Dela Pena, Alyssa Berona, Claudia Roca and Oriel Lupango – as well as for HR Program Director Pomponia Martinez and the broader Acsenda community. This accomplishment reflects our HR students’ dedication, as well as the practical, industry‑focused learning which Acsenda uses to share the next generation of HR leaders. As Alyssa Berona shared, “We applied what we learned, and in the end, we were all in sync.” As a cohesive and capable team, HRmony Solutions addressed a complex case involving downsizing and organizational competitiveness. Their thoughtful understanding of the HR strategies and practices required to address such workplace challenges was evident throughout their presentation. The students delivered a thoughtful and professional case presentation before a panel of industry and academic judges. Don Dela Pena shared: ”Representing my school was indeed an immense honor, lifting the spirit of ‘International thinking. Individual Focus’.” In addition, Oriel Lupango said: “Experiences like this remind me why I’m passionate about Human Resources and people’s strategy, solving complex workforce challenges and turning ideas into actionable solutions.” Our team proudly secured third place, demonstrating remarkable teamwork, critical thinking, and professionalism. This recognition is a testament to the program’s level of preparation, coaching, and determination put forward by our students.
