GoLocal Shows the Value of International Business Degrees in Canada.

MIS students developing the GoLocal app as part of their international business degree in Canada.

Building innovative ideas is easier when people with diverse global perspectives work together. The journey behind GoLocal, a student-created mobile app developed by our Management International Systems (MIS) concentration students – Yusri Ashroff, Rhodriche Delgado and Upeksha Rathnayake – perfectly reflects the spirit of studying an international business degree in Canada where creativity, collaboration, and real‑world problem‑solving take center stage.  At Acsenda School of Management, we empower students to think globally and act confidently. Our mission inspires learners to strive for excellence, embrace innovation, and contribute positively to the world. GoLocal embodies that mission from concept to launch.  A Simple Idea That Evolved into Something Bigger.  The MIS concentration offers comprehensive, hands‑on training in using information systems to solve real business challenges. It blends strong theoretical foundations with practical, industry‑ready skills that enhance business processes, operations, analytics, and IT performance. By integrating technology with strategic decision‑making, the program helps drive efficiency, innovation, and organizational success.  That is the reason students behind GoLocal started with a straightforward goal: build an app that helps people discover and manage local events. Yet as development unfolded, the project became more than an assignment – it turned into a full, distributed system that mirrored the complexity of real industry work.  This transformation highlights what students often experience with us while earning an international business degree in Canada – learning by solving real business necessities.  Diving Into Technologies Without Fear  Each team member took ownership of a different system, learning new tools, systems, and ways to collaborate.  One student focused on AWS cloud infrastructure. Another created the iOS interface. The third managed .NET backend integration. They learned fast, experimented boldly, and supported one another through every challenge.  This hands‑on learning echoes Acsenda’s focus on practical, industry‑relevant education. Students push boundaries, explore new tools, and apply global thinking to local solutions.  Real app development means real interdependence. As the GoLocal team built their features, they discovered something important: a single update in one area influenced everything else:   Instead of slowing down, the students communicated more, documented better, and aligned their work. This is the same mindset that strong international business leaders practice—strategic planning, clear communication, and rapid adaptation.  Managing Time, Workload, and Pressure. The group handled multiple courses, assignments, and part‑time jobs while building GoLocal. Although the project required more time than expected, they stayed committed. Even late evenings became moments of collaboration and shared problem‑solving.  These experiences reflect the realities of working in global business environments. You learn to juggle responsibilities, adapt quickly, and stay focused when challenges arise.  At Acsenda, we understand that balancing school, work, and a growing project takes dedication—and the right support system. That’s why our programs are designed not only to develop strong academic and professional skills, but also to ensure students have access to the resources they need to thrive.  Our Career Services team helps students stay career‑ready through coaching, résumé and interview preparation, industry events, and personalized guidance. At the same time, our Wellness Services provide holistic support, offering workshops, counselling resources, and tools to maintain a healthy balance throughout your academic journey.  Together, these services empower students to manage their commitments confidently while building momentum toward long‑term success.  Debugging: The Quiet Hero of Successful Projects  As the students developed GoLocal, many of the toughest moments stemmed from tiny issues—expired tokens, mismatched fields, gateway errors, and database permissions.  However, every obstacle strengthened their technical confidence and sharpened their teamwork.  Great business leaders know that the path to innovation is filled with troubleshooting, testing, and patience. The GoLocal team learned this firsthand.  By the end of their journey, GoLocal offered powerful features:  Core app functions  Technical foundation  This wasn’t just an academic project. It became a professional‑quality system built by students determined to excel.  Team Growth: The Heart of the Story  Originally assigned to different groups, the students joined forces unexpectedly. Without an Android developer, they worked with what they had—an AWS engineer, a .NET developer, and an iOS specialist.  As the student‘s’ chemistry grew, their dedication strengthened. Late nights became shared triumphs. New features sparked excitement. Challenges forged friendships.    This evolution showcases the true value of studying in Canada: students from different backgrounds come together, learn relentlessly, and create meaningful solutions.  The project from the course Systems Development Using Advanced Software Tools taught personal lessons that will shape their careers:  These lessons mirror the outcomes of pursuing an international business degree in Canada, where teamwork, leadership, and global awareness define the student experience.  GoLocal: Proof That Students Can Lead Real Innovation  Our business school encourages students to think globally, act responsibly, and lead with purpose. GoLocal captures that vision with clarity:  This project demonstrates what happens when academic knowledge meets creativity, collaboration, and courage. So, if you like connecting technology to business the Management Information Systems Concentration is an excellent choice for those searching for undergraduate business programs Canada.  Take your next step toward your degree! Choosing an international business degree in Canada can unlock opportunities to innovate, collaborate, and create solutions that matter. At Acsenda School of Management, we support students as they turn ideas into achievements—just like GoLocal.
