A Story of Success and Inspiration: The Journey of Nagour Sandhu

One such story is that of Nagour Sandhu, a shining example of what happens when talent, opportunity, and mentorship align.
It was during the winter term of 2022, in the midst of the post-pandemic era, that I had the privilege of meeting Nagour in my Hospitality Program class. Like any dedicated educator, I started the semester by asking my students about their current work experiences. When it was Nagour’s turn to speak, he mentioned that he was working at Tim Hortons, one of Canada’s most popular and well-known quick-service restaurant chains. While Tim Hortons has an undeniable reputation, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Nagour’s potential extended far beyond the QSR world.
As a faculty member with years of experience, I knew there were greater opportunities for someone with Nagour’s skills, drive, and passion. So, along with Dr. Thomas, the Director of the Hospitality Department, we made it our mission to guide Nagour toward the next step in his professional journey: the hotel industry. Though initially reluctant, Nagour took our advice and made the leap. He transitioned to The Executive Hotel, one of Vancouver’s premier hospitality establishments.
It wasn’t long before his dedication and talent started to shine. One day, our former Vice President of Academics, Dr. Chehra Aboukinane, visited The Executive Hotel for a meeting. As she searched for the meeting room, Nagour immediately noticed her and, with the utmost professionalism, assisted her in finding her way. His proactive and thoughtful approach left a lasting impression on Dr. Aboukinane, who, upon learning he was a student at Acsenda, was proud to share the news of his exceptional service. It was a perfect example of how Acsenda’s hospitality program produces not only skilled professionals but industry-ready leaders.
Nagour’s journey didn’t stop there. His passion and competence soon caught the attention of American Airlines, who offered him a position as Lead Passenger Service Agent, a role that saw him gaining GSC and CRO endorsements. But Nagour continued to rise, today, he serves as a Turnaround Coordinator, where he is responsible for the meticulous planning, organization, and execution of all activities required to prepare an aircraft for departure. His role ensures that all processes are carried out safely, securely, and on time.
During one of our conversations, I made a lighthearted joke, telling Nagour, “I’m going to ask for a double-double at the check-in counter at YVR Airport.” With his trademark warm smile, he responded, “I will serve you with passion.” And that’s exactly what he does: serving with passion in everything he does.
Nagour’s success is just one example of the impact Acsenda’s Hospitality Program has on the careers of our graduates. We take immense pride in nurturing students who not only excel but also elevate the standards of their industries. Students like Nagour remind us why we do what we do: to provide the best possible education, to connect students to their future professions, and to be a part of their incredible journey toward success.
