Insights from the Vancouver Logistics Briefing: Exploring Canada’s Supply Chain Future with CITT

Acsenda School of Management recently had the privilege of attending the “Vancouver Logistics Briefing” organized by the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation (CITT), Canada’s leading association for logistics professionals. This insightful event offered a deep dive into the logistics and transportation industries, highlighting the key role that Vancouver plays in Canada’s supply chain.

The event commenced with a visit to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority Discovery Centre. Acsenda attendees explored the vital functions of the Port of Vancouver, which serves as a central hub connecting Canada with the Pacific region. The interactive tour provided a closer look at the port’s extensive operations and its economic impact across the nation.

Following this, a panel discussion was held at the Delta Hotel, where experts shared perspectives on the challenges and operational complexities facing British Columbia’s terminals. Topics included logistical demands, strategies for overcoming sector-wide difficulties, and innovations shaping the future of logistics.

One standout presentation focused on social purchasing, an emerging approach that emphasizes ethical and community-oriented procurement. Attendees learned about the benefits of adopting social purchasing within organizations, gaining insights into best practices for implementation.

The final panel discussion provided a comprehensive look at various transportation modes—air, rail, and trucking—examining each sector’s unique challenges, resilience, and opportunities. The session concluded with a promising overview of Canada’s national supply chain strategy, outlining steps toward a more sustainable and resilient logistics future.
