Orange Campaign: Towards Reconciliation- Success Stories

By ASM Marketing Club

The ASM Marketing Club had the privilege of participating in the Orange Campaign, a digital initiative dedicated to raising awareness and sparking meaningful discussions on Indigenous reconciliation. Our assigned theme, “Towards Reconciliation: Success Stories,” shines a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of First Nations and Indigenous individuals who have made significant strides in fields such as sports, music, science, and research.

Through engaging social media posts, we have shared a collection of success stories that shine light on the resilience, determination, and achievements of Indigenous Peoples. These posts aim to shine light on Indigenous athlete, scientist, and musician who are not only excelling in their fields but also paving the way for future generations.

Why Is This Important?

Canada’s history with its First Nations and Indigenous Peoples is complex, with both painful chapters and ongoing efforts towards healing and reconciliation. The Orange Campaign draws its significance from Orange Shirt Day, a movement that began in 2013 to honor survivors of the residential school system, their families and friends, as well as those who never returned home. The day asks us to acknowledge the painful and traumatic legacy of the residential schools, reflect on the significance of ‘Every Child Matters’ motto and work towards meaningful reconciliation. The Orange Campaign hopes to stand as a platform to celebrate Indigenous identity and success in the face of adversity. Recognizing and amplifying their success stories is a powerful step toward healing and inclusion.

Our Role as International Students

As international students, we bring our own diverse backgrounds to Canada, making it essential to understand the history of the Indigenous Peoples who first inhabited this land. By educating ourselves about Indigenous history, support indigenous voices, and participate in the Orange Campaign, we can play an important role in fostering respect and inclusivity within our community.

Together, as a diverse and inclusive community, we can contribute to a broader understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures and success.

Let us continue to be ambassadors of change as we embrace our role in reconciliation.
