Experiential Learning Opportunities and Industry Networking for Students

Connecting People with Professions

By Nirmal Vasanth

At Acsenda School of Management, we believe education is not confined to the four walls of a classroom — it thrives where theory meets practice. As part of our Facility Management course, I recently had the privilege of taking our students on a transformative field trip to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) — one of Canada’s most sophisticated and busiest airport hubs.

This visit was more than an academic outing. It was a carefully curated experience designed to connect students with their profession — a philosophy we champion at Acsenda under the banner: “Connecting People with Professions.”

The YVR field trip allowed our students to witness large-scale facility operations in a real-time environment. From terminal management and energy systems to stakeholder coordination, safety protocols, and sustainability efforts, every element of the visit tied directly into the learning outcomes of our Facility Management curriculum.

What made this experience truly impactful was the direct engagement with industry professionals working behind the scenes. Our students were inspired by firsthand insights, practical demonstrations, and the opportunity to ask meaningful questions. These interactions helped them understand how classroom theories are applied in high-pressure, real-world scenarios — a crucial step in building confidence and career direction.

Such immersive learning experiences solidify academic concepts and foster industry connections that students carry forward into their professional lives. This is the Acsenda way — empowering students with experiential learning that bridges education and industry, and preparing them to become job-ready graduates.

A special thank you goes out to Mr. Ivan and Ms. Moska, whose unwavering support and coordination made this event successful. Their efforts exemplify our collaborative spirit with the YVR airport, which makes Acsenda’s vision for student success a reality.

As educators, our most outstanding achievement is not just teaching—it is creating opportunities for students to see themselves in the roles they aspire to become. Initiatives like the YVR Airport visit proudly continue our mission.
