In September, our community came together for the annual Shoreline Cleanup at English Bay—an initiative that brought students beyond the classroom to protect the local environment while living out the values we stand for. We are on a mission to empower BBA and BHM students to became socially responsible leaders. Since 2019, our school encourages the ASM family to remove shoreline litter to help create healthy waters in Vancouver, preserving the wildlife and communities that live in the neighbourhoods thought impactful conservation initiatives. That is why our community stood together proving that small actions, when multiplied, can make a big difference for our environment. ASM School of Management makes an impact beyond the classroom Throughout the year, our students and faculty participate in a learning experience that mirrors the realities of today’s global business landscape. The Annual Shoreline Cleanup at English Bay, is a meaningful event that showed how leadership skills are developed not only in academic settings but also in real-life actions that create positive change. By stepping outside the classroom, students experienced firsthand how global thinking and local action come together to form the kind of leaders the world needs. After all the cleanup was more than just picking up litter—it was about protecting Vancouver’s shoreline, preventing pollution from entering our oceans, and safeguarding marine life. Every year plastics enter the world’s oceans on scales of millions of tones. Accordingly, with Whale BC this plastic pollution is threatening the marine life. Larger pieces of plastic often cause entanglement, trapping animals and restricting their movement. In addition, many species mistake litter for food, leading to ingestion that harms their health and survival. The consumption of plastic has become a widespread and damaging problem, affecting countless individual animals across the oceans. As the world demands sustainability, ASM School of Management leads by example. That is why our volunteers worked together to remove waste and debris from the beach, all while fostering teamwork, raising awareness, and promoting sustainable habits. It was an opportunity for students not only to contribute to a cleaner city but also to live out Acsenda’s values of global citizenship and environmental responsibility. Moreover, this initiative reinforced one of our core values: education is never a one-size-fits-all journey. At Acsenda School of Management, we focus on understanding students individually. Their strengths, their challenges, and their aspirations, so we can guide them toward unleashing their potential. The shoreline cleanup gave our students a platform to apply what they learn in class to a cause that matters to everyone, regardless of background. Students from different programs and countries worked side by side, fostering collaboration, debate, and critical thinking, much like the cross-cultural exchanges that happen every day in our classrooms. Therefore, the experience became not just about cleaning a beach but about learning how leadership, responsibility, and cooperation translate into real-world impact. As a result, participants walked away with a deeper understanding of how social responsibility and business education are connected. Building Community Through Service The event also offered students the chance to connect as part of the Vancouver community, building friendships, practicing leadership, engaging with locals, and creating lasting memories in one of Vancouver’s most iconic locations. With the backdrop of English Bay Beach, the cleanup became a celebration of community spirit and shared responsibility for the planet. Reflecting our belief that leadership requires action, since our students didn’t just talk about sustainability, they actively contributed to it. In addition to the sense of community by joining the 2025 Shoreline Cleanup, students demonstrated the type of responsibility and initiative that employers, communities, and the world increasingly demand. For more than two decades, we have proudly welcomed students from Asia, Europe, Latin America, and British Columbia’s local high school community. As a Designated Learning Institution, we offer two degree pathways: the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), with concentrations in Human Resources, Accounting, Financial Management, International Business, Marketing, Real Estate Management, Management Information Systems, and General Business, and the Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM). Both programs prepare graduates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in today’s global environment. On September 24th, 2025, we hosted our Term 4 Welcome and Orientation Day. Our Student Experience Department, in partnership with Student Services, organized this orientation event to foster integration, belonging, and a strong sense of community for new students. A Gateway to Academic and Professional Success Traditionally our Welcome and Orientation Day takes place four times per year, reflecting our commitment to preparing students for academic success and professional life after graduation. As a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) recognized by the Government of Canada, we ensure that students receive not only a high-quality education but also the support they need to thrive in a unique environment. At Acsenda, we put this commitment into practice through since the first day of a new cohort. During the event, students meet program directors to learn more about the resources they can get to enrich their academic experience. While also discovering essential services such as Career Services and Housing that facilities their life’s in Vancouver. As a result, they gain a clear understanding of the academic and student services available to guide them throughout their journey. Furthermore to inspire the student’s our Senior Leadership shared valuable insights. As Dr. Sally-Ann Burnett, Senior Vice President of Teaching, Learning and Scholarship, advised: “When pursuing a career, what truly differentiates people is their network—the relationships they build and the way they engage. I encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities at Acsenda for building your broader network, alongside your academic studies.” How new students find support, belonging, and learn about opportunities In addition, Student Clubs and organizations presented opportunities for involvement beyond the classroom. By joining these groups, students begin building friendships, developing leadership skills, and creating a genuine sense of belonging. In the end, this experience reflects our mission as a Designated Learning Institution in Vancouver: to nurture academic achievement while encouraging personal growth, leadership, and global citizenship. Acsenda’s BHM Students Academic Poster Case Competition The Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM) program at Acsenda School of Management recently held an exciting academic poster case competition that brought together the brightest minds in the program. The event took place on Thursday, June 20th, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM in the Acsenda Library and featured six groups of students from the BHMT 402 course, Creating Value in the Hospitality Industry. Real-World Inspiration and Challenges Participants showcased newly developed conceptual frameworks inspired by the operational challenges they encounter in their current roles at various hospitality businesses, including Botanist Restaurant, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Marriott Pinnacle Hotel, Time Square Hotel, Tap & Barrel Restaurant, and Vancouver Aquarium. Comprehensive Evaluation by Industry Experts To ensure a fair and comprehensive evaluation, the competition invited all administrative staff from the Acsenda School of Management as well as external judges from institutions such as JW Marriott, Vancouver Community College (VCC), and Western Community College (WCC). Their task was to assess each group’s innovative solutions based on a set of criteria and vote for the winning team. Celebrating Excellence: The Winning Team The highlight of the event was the announcement of the winning group: Anjaan Shrestha, Christine Joy Vecina, Manvir Singh, and Srijan Karki. This year, she organized a series of 18 debates for her students, focusing on sustainable behaviors and ecological consciousness. These debates were not mere academic exercises; they provided a platform for students to propose and commit to tangible environmental actions. One of the key outcomes of these debates was a collective decision among students to each abandon a behavior harmful to the environment. This commitment was more than theoretical —it required students to actively work on reducing their environmental footprint. In practice, this meant that after learning about Stoicism, students decided to eliminate disposable plastic containers from their classroom. Walk of Ages: A Successful Step for Seniors!
We’re delighted to share the success of the inaugural Walk of Ages, held on June 9, 2024. Organized by the Seniors Services Society of BC, this event was a meaningful gathering focused on raising awareness and funds for seniors facing challenges such as poverty, homelessness, elder abuse, and isolation. Walking Together for a Cause Participants gathered at the scenic New Westminster Quay, creating a vibrant and unified front to support our seniors. Walkers of all ages came together, each step symbolizing a commitment to making a difference in the lives of elderly community members. The event saw enthusiastic participation from Acsenda School of Management students, who volunteered their time to assist in various roles, from setup to guiding participants. Their involvement was key to the event’s smooth operation, and their efforts were both appreciated and inspiring. Support Along the Way Rest stops, hosted by the New Westminster Community Response Network (CRN), Bria Communities, and BC Housing, provided refreshing breaks for the walkers. These stops were more than just places to rest—they were hubs of encouragement where participants could hydrate, recharge, and receive support from volunteers. A Community Feast After the walk, everyone was treated to a delicious continental breakfast served by the New Westminster Legion Branch #2.
