Acsenda’s BHM Students Academic Poster Case Competition

The Bachelor of Hospitality Management (BHM) program at Acsenda School of Management recently held an exciting academic poster case competition that brought together the brightest minds in the program. The event took place on Thursday, June 20th, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM in the Acsenda Library and featured six groups of students from the BHMT 402 course, Creating Value in the Hospitality Industry.

Real-World Inspiration and Challenges

Participants showcased newly developed conceptual frameworks inspired by the operational challenges they encounter in their current roles at various hospitality businesses, including Botanist Restaurant, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Marriott Pinnacle Hotel, Time Square Hotel, Tap & Barrel Restaurant, and Vancouver Aquarium.

Comprehensive Evaluation by Industry Experts

To ensure a fair and comprehensive evaluation, the competition invited all administrative staff from the Acsenda School of Management as well as external judges from institutions such as JW Marriott, Vancouver Community College (VCC), and Western Community College (WCC). Their task was to assess each group’s innovative solutions based on a set of criteria and vote for the winning team.

Celebrating Excellence: The Winning Team

The highlight of the event was the announcement of the winning group: Anjaan Shrestha, Christine Joy Vecina, Manvir Singh, and Srijan Karki. This talented team impressed the judges with their conceptual framework aimed at increasing front desk operations and efficiency at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Their practical insights earned them the top spot in the competition.

“This recognition not only celebrated their hard work and creativity but also highlighted the BHM program’s dedication to providing comprehensive learning opportunities for undergraduate students,” said Dr. Thomas Gomes, BHM Director.

Award Ceremony and Recognition
The award ceremony was a moment of pride and celebration. The BHM director, Dr. Thomas Gomes , associate director, Nirmal Vasanth, and faculty member Jian Huang presented the winning team with a $100 CAD Gift Voucher. This recognition celebrated their hard work and creativity and underscored the program’s commitment to fostering innovation and practical learning.

Exhibition of Student Projects
For those interested in viewing the projects, all six posters will be on display in the Acsenda Library until July 14th, 2024. This exhibition provides an excellent opportunity for those who would like to learn some of the conceptual frameworks and appreciate all the hard work of the BHM students.
